  Ah, but there is no such thing as a neutral perspective. Everything is relative. =) And so “the universe” cannot be viewed as a whole like that.

  I will say, though, that the scales of astronomy are entirely overwhelming if you begin to understand them even a little bit. It’s probably safer not to think about them. I don’t know how people who do it for a living can cope with it.
