I had a truly horrible Junior High school career, in which I occupied the much-loathed lowest rung in a social hierarchy I didn’t want to be a part of. (How it sickens me when adults say, “everyone wants to fit in!” I didn’t want to fit in, I wanted to GET OUT.) That may be why I read the hundreds of very kind “Happy Birthday” messages on my Facebook page Tuesday with some cognitive dissonance. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to accept the identity of “popular.”
In my times of school, i felt exactly this way.
How about “appreciated”?
Definitely “appreciated!”
I’ll take “appreciated,” thanks.
Seems to be the same all around the world for Geeks and Nerds (both in the positive sense and not the insulting one). There was a real good write-up about this topic but I lost the link, maybe I find it again…
A little late but better now then never: all the Best to you (with capital B)! Especially health and whatever you might wish for.
Cheers,
Drizzt

My jr. high days were a nightmare too. I understand what you mean about adults assuming it’s all about “fitting in.” Those kids were cruel, petty, and disgusting. Fit in with them? no thanks!
Junior high…good ol’ nightmare fuel for cartoonists.
I don’t think any human being liked junior high, including me. My two teens are going through it now and they hate it. It doesn’t matter what school you went to, it was the most insecure stage of life along with hormones and testosterone crazy. Those two years were so hard, I just try to make sure my kids see their friends a lot. It’s the best way to get through that stage…I think.
Your kids have friends? They’re doing better than I did.
