Ancestry is Destiny

Some of my ancestors were Slavs, the original slaves:

slave (n.) Look up slave at Dictionary.com late 13c., “person who is the property of another,” from O.Fr. esclave (13c.), from M.L. Sclavus “slave” (cf. It. schiavo, Fr. esclave, Sp. esclavo), originally “Slav” (see Slav), so called because of the many Slavs sold into slavery by conquering peoples.

My other ancestors were Jews, the original victims.  So please don’t play ancestral victim with me. Not because I’ll win, but because it is an extremely stupid game.

Haiku:
Ancestral victims?
Your ancestral oppressors
Are just as dead now.

Alternate Haiku:
Ancestral victims
Yet we all are descended
from the survivors

Junior High

I had a truly horrible Junior High school career, in which I occupied the much-loathed lowest rung in a social hierarchy I didn’t want to be a part of. (How it sickens me when adults say, “everyone wants to fit in!” I didn’t want to fit in, I wanted to GET OUT.) That may be why I read the hundreds of very kind “Happy Birthday” messages on my Facebook page Tuesday with some cognitive dissonance. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to accept the identity of “popular.”

The most popular newspaper comic strips of the late 20th Century featured “Monday” strips. Synopsis: the character hates Mondays. Hilarity ensues! We can all* relate, right? Here are some more Monday cartoons, and an answer to them from Dinosaur Comics.
